Material Processing & Demanufacturing

RECEIVING—TEARDOWN—DESTRUCTION—BRAND SANITATION—COMMODITY PREPARATION

BMI DELIVERS OVER TWO DECADES OF HIGHLY DEVELOPED EXPERTISE TO THE CORE DISCIPLINE OF MATERIALS AND COMMODITY INTAKE, TEARDOWN, AND OPTIMAL COMMODITY PREPARATION FOR SECURE AND MAXIMIZED END-DISPOSITION. ROUND-THE-CLOCK WAREHOUSE SHIFTS, STRUCTURED TEAMS AND DEDICATED PROCESSING FLOOR SPACES, FULL SAFETY REGIMENTS, ISO / R2 PROTOCOLS, AND AN ANYIELDING FOCUS ON THE CREATION OF CLEAN FINAL COMMODITY AGGREGATION FROM WIDE-RANGING, HIGH-VOLUME / MASS-TONNAGE RETIRED CLIENT ASSETS ARE THE KEY FEATURES OF THIS CRITICAL, CENTRAL CAPABILITY.

General Processing and Demanufacturing Steps:

  • RECEIVING & VERIFICATION: Upon arrival and docking – under live witness and video capture – an in-house hard documentation chain is continued immediately as equipment and commodities are offloaded, counted, weighed, and then independently re-quantified. Counts by pallet, box, cabinet, item, commodity and any other relevant unit of measure are counted and weighed, and formally documented under a unique BMI internal lot number – which governs all further movement of the materials
  • DATA CAPTURE: BMI’s receiving documents are initiated immediately upon arrival of shipments to dock, and include capture of following initial data points:
    • BOL and container ID number
    • Date and location of the evacuation
    • Date and time of receipt at BMI processing facility
    • Gross, tare, and net weights of all materials received
  • DEMANUFACTURING / TEARDOWN: Whole units are disassembled into core commodities and initial material classes including all metals, shelves and enclosures, packs, fans, switches, miscellaneous hardware, internal connectors and cabling, and others. Throughout the process, the operative mandate is to utilize the most efficient recycling / disassembly processes to achieve the purest possible constituent commodities
  • DESTRUCTION: The inoperability of devices, whole equipment, targeted components, boards, or other specified elements is ensured using approved and warranted methods: safe crushing, drilling, shearing, shredding, or other methods prescribed to achieve the required outcome. HDD and memory devices receive special attention and monitored treatment
  • BRAND SANITATION: Company logos, asset tags, internal serial numbers, bar codes and other branding mechanisms are removed, secured, and properly disposed
  • PROCESSING & SORTING: Fine processing is continued to clean, strip, remove impurities and value-reducers, further sort, and perform final material preparation and designation to pure commodity classes
  • HAZMAT MANAGEMENT: Hazardous materials / components (lead, beryllium, mercury, others) are removed and segregated to the appropriate compliant disposition channel for those materials groups
  • AGGREGATION & END DISPOSITION: Final output graded materials are collected to peak volume and directed to the most optimized specialty smelter or refining destination, or other appropriate end-disposition outcome.

Specific Material Pathways:

General materials classes undergo specific treatment and segregation regimes in order to accumulate like commodities to achieve optimum scale and grading for end markets.

  • Whole Equipment: Pending intended outcome — recycling, destruction, or remarketing – whole equipment can be scanned in at the parent or further child level, or received by make / model / serial, or received as a per-pound classified commodity.
  • Iron & Steel: All primary steel and iron-derived metals are separated and collected in dedicated 40 yard containers for individuated evacuation and high-volume processing, shredding, or baling in preparation for re-manufacturing uses.
  • Cabling & Cu Bearing: Cleaning and preparation steps are taken to purify the commodity and enhance value, including the removal of all clips, connectors, and impurities. Cable is sorted into grades & types: separated by percentage of copper and or aluminum to ensure proper receipt and valuation. Copper-bearing items such as transformers, relays, power supplies and breakage – once carefully identified and optimized via smart preparation – are aggregated into grades and consolidated into outbound units for downstream reclamation processing via accredited copper smelters and recovery partners.
  • Aluminum: Aluminum is graded as a function of purity and content, and is specially aggregated to best-suited refining and foundry outlets — shipped in bulk to optimize scale and ensure equitable yields.
  • Batteries: All inbound batteries are quantified and documented by chemistry or configuration. Prepared batteries are labeled, packed, and protected for outbound shipping; volumes and types are consolidated to ideal shipping weights and directed to BMI’s vetted and compliant downstream smelting partners.
  • PCB / Precious Metals-Bearing: Printed Circuit Boards – a main Focus Material under R2 management standards — receive very particulated treatment, including removal from any casings or protective metal packs; segregation and quarantine of any hazardous aspects for separate tracked treatment; cleaning, stripping, and removal of impurities; and expert grading determinations based on knowledge of precious metals contents, percentages, and ratios to direct straight material classes to the best-matched, optimized refining destination.
  • HDD and Memory Devices: BMI is committed to providing and fully documenting the appropriate processing and reporting mechanisms necessary to achieve conformity with customer needs and objectives. BMI’s R2-compliant methodology for Hard Drive Data Destruction spans the following service steps; options include:
    • Physical Destruction (Drilling / Scoring, Dismantling and Cutting Platters or Shredding)
    • Software Data Erasure – NIST 800-88 / NAID standards; overwrite to DOD 5220.22
    • Independent Verification – 3rd party audit sampling and formal rendering of impartial erasure metrics
    • Audit Package – capture of verification data including device count, container, seal, sampling rate, other
  • Blueprints, Paperwork, Manuals: BMI can provide the full securing, shredding / destruction, and proper disposition of commonly-found paper goods and instruction materials which may accompany material shipments and contain proprietary information or present downstream risk to clients via improper disposal methods.
